Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General Questions

How do I contact you?

For the fastest response, please contact us via our support form. (For more information about our company see our Company page.)

Who is QOOP?

Blogprinting.com is a QOOP, Inc. website. QOOP is an on-demand printer and can be visited at www.qoop.com.

How will my documents look when printed?

They'll look great! We print on state of the art digital presses. We print on bright white, 80lb stock to give you a crisp, professional print. Our covers are printed in color on bright white, 100lb glossy stock and then laminated.

What does the book look like?

We offer books in three sizes: 8.5"x11", 8"x10", and 6"x9". They can be printed in black and white or in color. The books are perfect-bound (the professional binding used for paperback books). We provide a simple options page to add titles and an image to your cover, or—if you're looking for something fancier—we let you upload your own custom front and back cover.

If I choose the black and white printing, is the cover also in black and white?

No, the cover is always printed in color.

Can you print my blog?

Yes, if it is on Movable Type, TypePad, WordPress, or a compatible platform. (If your blog supports the Metaweblog API, chances are we can read it as a "Movable Type" blog. The one catch is that not all implementations of the Metaweblog API allow us to get to your postings archive.)

Why can't I print my Blogger blog?

Blogger.com recently changed the behavior of their server to only provide the 15 most recent posts. Full archive support is expected in the near future. When access to older posts is restored, we will re-enable blogger support after we have completed testing.

Do I need to download any software to my computer?

No, our server does all the work. That means you can use our service with any computer—all you need is a web browser. However, to view book previews, your browser must be able to display PDF files.

Will my pictures print out?

Yes, as long as you've included them in the blog posts with standard HTML formatting. We do check for a valid image file extension—all image files must end in .JPEG .PNG or .GIF.

Why doesn't my printed blog look the same as it looks onscreen?

Our software reads and formats a limited subset of HTML. We'll render most of the simple HTML that people commonly include in their blogs, but there are special cases where our conversion engine cannot render the HTML the same way that your browser does. In particular, HTML errors, such as missing tags that the browser may let you get away with, may cause your blog to print incorrectly. Therefore, your particular results may vary. We strongly recommend that you inspect the preview before purchase! If the preview appears different than what is displayed in the browser, you may want to check the HTML code in your blog to ensure that it is valid HTML. Online HTML validators are available that can verify your code and help identify potential errors (search for "online HTML validator").

How much will it cost me?

Black and white books cost $7.50 for the first 28 pages, plus 4 cents per page for additional pages. Color books cost $12.00 for the first 28 pages, plus 30 cents per page for additional pages. If you set up an account to resell your blog, you can specify either a percentage or a flat royalty. Any royalties are added to the base cost of the book.

Here are some sample prices for various book sizes assuming a 20% royalty:

  B&W
Base Cost
Royalty B&W
Retail Cost
Color
Base Cost
Royalty Color
Retail Cost
30 Pages $7.58 $1.90 $9.48 $12.60 $3.15 $15.75
100 Pages $10.38 $2.60 $12.98 $33.60 $8.40 $42.00
500 Pages $26.38 $6.60 $32.98 $153.60 $38.40 $192.00

How do I sell my blog to others?

Create an account with blogprinting.com (click on "Launch Connection" on the home page). We'll provide you with a URL that you post on your blog, or include in an email, or wherever you want to promote your blog. When customers click on the link, they'll be redirected to your blog's page on our site where they can select the date range they're interested in and make the purchase.

Will my blog be available to resell right away?

No, we run each new blog through our internal quality control checks to make sure our software is able to make a reasonable book from your blog before we make it available to other customers. However, you are able to make test books and purchase them immediately. We strongly suggest generating the preview and making a sample and then reviewing both carefully. When we complete our QC check, we'll send you an email notifying you that your blog is ready for resale.

Do I need to remake the book when I add new posts to my blog?

You don't have to go through any formatting steps to make new books. Our server makes each book on the fly. You (or your readers) select the date range to include in the book, and our server makes the book from those posts. Each book is unique.

Can I make my own custom covers?

Yes. Create PDFs of your covers, which you can then upload on the cover options page. If the custom covers have a white background color, the files should be the same size as the rest of the document (8.5"x11", 8"x10", and 6"x9"). However, if your document has images that will extend right to the edge of the page, see the folowing section for important information on creating cover PDFs with a "bleed" allowance.

Are there any special requirements for making the PDF files for the cover?

Yes. You should be sure to embed all fonts, and—for best results—set the compatibility to Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4).
When creating the file, use at least 300 dpi resolution-and preferably 600 dpi-as the target printer resolution. The color space should be RGB for best color reproduction, though we do support CMYK. Do not use color corrected color spaces, as they will produce unpredictable results. Spot colors will be converted to an RGB equivalent. Set the security options for printing and encryption to "Disabled" or your document may not print properly.
If your cover image(s) will extend right to the edge of the page, you will need to include a "bleed" allowance when you create your artwork. This is because the books are printed on slightly larger sheets of paper and then trimmed to the final size. Extending the image slightly beyond the final trim size ensures that the image is flush to the edge of the page when the book is finished. See the table below for the appropriate bleed allowance for the page size setup for your book.

Here are the image sizes required for covers that require a bleed:

Book Size Front Cover Page Size* Back Cover Page Size*
6" x 9" 6.1" x 9.2"
(0.1" added to right side)
6.1" x 9.2"
(0.1" added to left side)
8" x 10" 8.1 x 10.2"
(0.1" added to right side)
8.1 x 10.2"
(0.1" added to left side)
8-1/2" x 11" 8.6 x 11.2"
(0.1" added to right side)
8.6 x 11.2"
(0.1" added to left side)

*Including bleed area.

Note: No bleed is required along the fold (spine) of the book, only along the outside edge.

I am using the PDF Maker utility in Word; how do I make adjustments for all the different settings?

The options for the PDF Maker utility are found in the Adobe PDF menu, under Change Conversion Settings / Advanced Options.

Why is there printing on the spine of some books, but not on others?

The spine is the folded over part of the cover where the pages are bound together. You can specify a title for the spine, but it will be printed only if the book is thick enough to place legible text on. There is an edit box at the bottom of the cover options page where you can enter/edit the title to be printed on the spine. If your book is less than 90 pages, we will not print anything on the spine because the spine is not wide enough to allow for printing text that will be large enough to read.

I don't own a copy of Acrobat. How can I make my documents into PDFs?

Here are some alternatives if you do not own a copy of Acrobat:

  • Adobe has a plug-in for Word that enables you to save your Word documents in PDF form. Visit the Adobe website (http://www.adobe.com) for more information.
  • You can use Adobe's online PDF creation tool at http://createpdf.adobe.com
  • The OpenOffice application suite (available via free download at http://www.openoffice.org) can read Word files and has a PDF export function built in.

Do you support A4 sizes?

Not yet—but you can email us if you have a large order for the A4 size.

Questions About Ordering Online

When I place an order, I'm sent to a QOOP shopping cart. Who are they?

Blogprinting.com is a part of QOOP, Inc. Blogprinting.com uses the QOOP web printing engine to deliver the highest quality, lowest cost printing to our customers. We also use their shopping cart to process credit card orders.

When will I get my order?

For All Orders: Your order will ship in 3-5 business days after you order (weekends and holidays are not considered business days and are not counted for purposes of determining printing and shipping time). Actual shipping time will depend upon your destination location and the shipping method chosen at the time you confirm your order. Because we have no control over third party shippers, we cannot guarantee delivery dates.
For Domestic (U.S.) Orders: Domestic orders sent via DHL Next Day should arrive the next business day after completion of printing. Domestic orders sent via DHL Ground generally arrive within 5-7 business days. When your order ships, you will receive shipper tracking information via email.
For International Orders: International orders sent via DHL normally arrive within 3-10 business days after completion of printing. Orders sent via international first class mail normally arrive 4-6 weeks after completion of printing. If you chose DHL Worldwide Express, we will email you the tracking number. Unfortunately, UPS/International mail delivery does not provide tracking numbers.

Yes, that is normal. Your order status will show "In Printing" until printing is completed and your order ships. Printing typically requires 3-5 business days.

What type of shipping is used?

Domestic: We use DHL for all shipments within the US. You may choose between Ground and Next Day service. (Note: Next Day service may not be available to all locations.)
International: We use both DHL Worldwide Express and International First Class mail. We currently cannot ship to PO Boxes, or to APO addresses.

What is my tracking number?

If you chose DHL Express, we will email you the tracking number. Unfortunately, international first class mail delivery does not provide tracking numbers.

Do you ship internationally?

If you want multiple copies of, a book we strongly suggest you print a single copy first to make sure it comes out just the way you want. We will gladly replace any defective products you receive from us.

Questions About BlogPrinting Books

What types of binding are available?

For binding blogs, we use the "perfect binding" process, which is the method used for paperback books in which the pages are held together by glueing them to the cover.

What is the smallest or largest book length that can be produced?

The smallest book that can be produced using perfect binding is 28 pages. If the posts you've selected to print fill less than 28 pages, we'll add filler pages to meet the minimum book length. The largest book that can be produced is 800 pages in length, but if your selected posts fill more than 800 pages, the we will break the book into two or more volumes for you.
